COUNCIL NEWS LEETON SHIRE COUNCIL NOTICEBOARD COUNCIL REMINDER PUBLIC NOTICE ROADWORKS FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE HOLDS FIRST MEETING Saturday, 11 October 2025 The Leeton Shire Council Financial Sustainability Advisory Committee (FSAC) held its inaugural meeting on Saturday, October 2025, at the Council Chambers, coinciding with Professor Joseph Drew's second visit to Leeton. The meeting focused on introductions and roles and guiding principles before progressing to the first proposition outlined in the University of Newcastle's Financial Sustainability Report for Leeton Shire Council. The Minutes of the meeting, along with the Committee's first. recommendations, will be tabled at Council's October Ordinary Meeting. Chaired by Professor Joseph Drew, the FSAC comprises ten community members, three councillors and two Council staff. Its purpose is to examine the findings of the University of Newcastle's report and pursue its recommendations with careful consideration of Leeton Shire's unique values, priorities and financial constraints. The next FSAC meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, 21 October 2025, and will be held remotely. PERMITS ARE NOW REQUIRED FOR ALL OPEN FIRES 1 October 2025 - 31 March 2026 The 2025/26 Bush Fire Danger Period for the MIA District runs from 1 October 2025 to 31 March 2026. During this time, fire permits will be required for all open fires with the below conditions: No burning of timber (trees, vines, sticks, orchard pruning's etc) Burning is to commence at 4pm and be completely extinguished by 11.59pm the same day You are able to apply for permits online using the below link. Pad permits are still able to be used If a pad permit (paper permit) is issued, a copy of the permit needs to be sent to the MIA Fire Control Centre by either email or fax The permit holder MUST do an online notification and notify their adjoining neighbours 24 hours before lighting the fire. Obtaining a fire permit is NOT a notification. Location: Boree Street, Leeton Duration: Saturday 18 October 2025, from 7am to 11.59pm Detours: Road closures will be clearly signposted. Local businesses trading as per normal unless otherwise advertised. Duration: Monday 20 October 2025 for approx. two weeks, 7am to 2.30pm each day. Reason: Leeton Chill & Grill 2025 18 OCT LECTOR LEETON PROVE MOUNTFORD PARK 22 Detours: Nil Reason: To allow Leeton Shire Council to undertake works on the Water Main in this area There may be brief interruptions to your water supply.
