A series of engaging events recognising the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples has been developed in close collaboration with the Leeton & District Local Aboriginal Land Council (LDLALC), continuing a valued and long-standing partnership of over 16 years. The celebrations (including a special performance by the Parkview Public School Wiradjuri Dance Group) will take place in front of the Council building (23-25 Chelmsford Place, Leeton) on Tuesday, 29 July 2025, commencing at 10am. The event will conclude with a morning tea held at the Leeton Museum and Art Gallery, providing an opportunity for the community to come together and reflect on the significance of NAIDOC Week. A local landmark, this heritage-listed weir on the mighty Murrumbidgee River near Leeton has helped power agriculture in the region since 1959. Fed from Burrinjuck and Blowering Dams, the Gogeldrie Weir pool enables water to be diverted to the gravity-fed Coleambally and Murrumbidgee Irrigation Areas, as well as sending water downstream. WaterNSW are making some improvements to ensure the weir infrastructure continues to meet modern engineering standards. Public access won't be affected, but you might hear some noise and see machinery while they complete the work.
