When walking your dog in public places or exercising your dog in Council's off-leash areas please ensure that you pick up after your dog immediately. The parasites and bacteria in dog waste can spread disease (e.g., E. coli and salmonella are some of the bacteria which are carried in dog waste) to other dogs and even to humans if not properly disposed of. In NSW, Section 20(1) of the Companion Animals Act states that if you fail to immediately remove your dog's droppings from a public place you can be liable to an on-the-spot fine of $275.
