COUNCIL NEWS LEETON SHIRE COUNCIL ROADWORKS NOTICEBOARD GRANTS & FUNDING COUNCIL EVENTS GET INVOLVED IN SUNRICE FESTIVAL STREET PARADE Saturday, 4 April 2026 The call is being put out to community groups, businesses, schools and organisations to take part in the 2026 Leeton SunRice Festival's street parade, to be held on Saturday, 4 April 2026. The Irrigator Street Parade is one of the most anticipated events of the festival weekend, celebrating Leeton Shire's community spirit, creativity and local pride. Each festival, the parade features a variety of floats, vehicles, walking groups and displays from across the region. To support participants and ensure the safe and smooth running of the parade, a compulsory Street Parade information session will be held prior to the event on Wednesday, 18 March 2026, at 6pm at the CWA Hall in the Leeton Multipurpose Centre in Wade Avenue. All groups wishing to participate in the street parade must submit an application by Monday 23 March 2026 and have a representative attend the compulsory meeting. The Leeton SunRice Festival Committee encourages a wide range of entries and welcomes creative ideas that reflect the diversity and character of the Leeton Shire community. TEMPORARY DISRUPTIONS TO TRAFFIC AND LANE CLOSURES Acacia Avenue Notice is hereby given under Roads Act 1993 for disruptions to traffic and temporary lane closures due to stormwater installation works. ::: Location: Acacia Avenue (between Yanco Ave and Elm St/Maiden Ave, adjacent to the Leeton Soldiers Club) Duration: Works will commence Monday 16 March 2026 and continue in sections until Friday 3 April 2026 Detours: Half road closures will be in place during construction periods from Thursday 19 March 2026 until works are completed with traffic control and signage in place. Closure of pedestrian access will be in place with detour signage; residents will have secondary access. During construction periods, carparking arrangements on both sides of Acacia Avenue will be disrupted. It is advised to make alternate route arrangements if possible Reason: Contractors will be conducting installation of stormwater pipes and junction pits as required for the upgrade of the Soldiers Club carpark facility Council apologises for any inconvenience and appreciates your cooperation. COMMUNITY STRENGTHENING GRANTS 2025/26 Round 2 Now Open Leeton Shire Council is pleased to advise that applications are now open for Round Two of Council's Community Strengthening Grants program. This funding is available to support community groups and organisations in their endeavours to establish, strengthen and/or implement projects which will benefit the Leeton Shire community. Grants are capped at $2,000 each. Applications for this grant will close at 5pm on Thursday, 30 April 2026. A copy of the guidelines and application form can be found on www.leeton.nsw.gov.au. Previous recipients include All Nations Christian Fellowship Leeton, which received $2,000 to cover insurance costs associated with delivering food to families in need, Leeton Multicultural Support Group with $2,000 to provide crisis support for vulnerable CALD community members including accommodation, food and medical expenses, and Riverina Roadrunners, which received $2,000 to assist with traffic management and road closure costs for their 2026 Show and Shine event. FREE MICROCHIPPING AFTERNOON FOR DOGS & CATS Wednesday, 25 March 2026 Leeton Shire Council is conducting a free microchipping day for dogs and cats at the Leeton Shire Council Pound on Wednesday 25 March 2026, between 1pm and 4pm. Council's free microchipping day is being held to encourage responsible pet ownership. Council wishes to remind residents of the importance of keeping your contact details up to date, which can be done through the Pet Registry website at www.petregistry.nsw. gov.au, so that if you move to a new house or change your phone number you will still be contactable in the event of your pet becoming lost. Dog and cat owners need to arrange an appointment time for the microchipping afternoon and complete the relevant form/s at the Leeton Shire Council office located at 23-25 Chelmsford Place prior to 25 March 2026.
