HS LEETON HIGH SCHOOL TERM 3 NEWSLETTER NAIDOC CELEBRATIONS Term 3 at Leeton High School started with our NAIDOC Week celebrations. While the weather hindered the activities planned, we were all able to leam more about Aboriginal perspectives, history and culture through the day and the meaning behind the theme "Heal Country Students and staff enjoyed trying kangaroo and native bush tucker in the form of lemon-myrtle and honey ice-cream made by our Food Technology students. Students also undertook research around the occasion to create some fantastic artwork. YEAR 6 TRANSITION PROGRAM Thankfully we were able to complete the second phase of our Year 6 into 7 Transition program before returning to learning from home. Our Transition Team, Ms, Byrne, Mr Kennedy and Ms. Schwencke, visited our partner primary schools over several weeks getting to know our newest students. Our wonderful Student Representative Council also attended showing their exemplary leadership skils. We really enjoyed meeting Year 6 and can't wait to see them next term. more so than Year 12. These students valiantly completed their Trial HSC Examinations online as an opportunity to hone their knowledge and skills in practice for their upcoming HSC exams in November. Term 3 culminated in the submission of major works for those HSC students studying practical and performance subjects. We are incredibly impressed with the work that has gone into these projects resulting in exceptionally high-level creations. Best wishes to our technology, drama and visual art students who have blown us away with their final products. Our HSC students have coped incredibly with the unavoidable intorruption to their final weeks of schooling. We wish them all the best for their upcoming HSC examinations. We are so proud of you all LONGHURST FAMILY CUP AND DUNN FAMILY SHIELD Loeton's three local high school participated in a nugby union tri-series, the inaugural Longhurst Family Cup and Dunn Family Shield, all entering a boys and girls opens team. All teams played in the spirit of the game and the audience thoroughly enjoyed the competition. Our girls' team narowly lost to St. Francis in a 10-12 ciff hanger while our boys were victorious with a dominant 24-0 victory St. Francis. Congratulations to all participants for an enthusiastic display of great team work and courage. SCHOOL LEADERS 2021/2022 Year 11 students nominated to undertake the role of prefect as part of the Leeton High School student leadership team. From there, an online election was organised so staff and students could cast their votes to determine our School Captains, An outstanding group of nine prefects rose to the challenge and delivered their speeches through an online platform. We are incredibly proud of these students and recognise the inspiring mix of talent within this group that will no doubt contribute greatly to our school community. 2022 SCHOOL LEADERS BACK INTO LEARNING FROM HOME Despite the challenges of returning to learning from home, Leeton High School's Wellbeing Hub kept our spirits up with some entertaining activities including themed photo competitions. We celebrated learning from home with selfies, pets, crazy hair, crazy hats, Book Week, footy colours, Science Week and more.
