GRALEE SCHOOL YEAR IN REVIEW - 2024 EXCURSIONS In an exciting venture beyond the classroom, students from Gralee School recently embarked on enriching educational excursions to the Blue Mountains and Borambola. These well-organised trips aimed to provide students with firsthand historical, geographical and cultural experiences, enhancing their learning in a dynamic and engaging environment. The excursion to the Blue Mountains allowed students to delve into the region's stunning natural beauty while exploring its rich Indigenous heritage and the significance of the area in Australian history. Meanwhile, the trip to Borambola offered a unique opportunity to experience the vibrant rural lifestyle, including hands-on activities that highlighted sporting activities and social connections. These excursions not only enriched students' academic knowledge but also served as a platform for them to bond outside the regular school setting. The experience fostered teamwork and promoted positive social interactions, allowing students to build lasting friendships and memories. Gralee School looks forward to planning future excursions that continue to inspire and educate students in innovative ways. SCHOOL COMMUNITY In 2023, the school community at Gralee has reached unprecedented levels of engagement! Families and community members were invited to participate in numerous events throughout the year, including the Welcome BBQ, Easter Parade, Mother's and Father's Day celebrations, Book Week, Harmony Day, NAIDOC Week festivities, Presentation and Graduation Day, as well as Education Week. It is truly heartwarming to witness the support students receive from the wider school community, highlighting the immense value of their educational experience. Let's not forget the countless other ways families have contributed to their children's education by participating in PLSP meetings, arranging informal meetings, coordinating specialist visits, and much more. Thank you to all for your commitment to valuing your children's education at Gralee. SENSORY FUN RUN In 2024, the Sensory Fun continued to grow, attracting the largest number of participants ever at 250! The inclusion of a wide variety of sensory stations sets the Gralee Fun Run apart from traditional colour runs. With the option of a 'quiet room' available, there truly is something for everyone to enjoy, providing opportunities to experience new activities and forge new friendships along the way. IN THE CLASSROOM The year began with the forming of five classes- Blue (infants), Yellow (primary), and three secondary classes, Green, Orange and Red. The student numbers increased from 2023, and we welcomed new staff too. We made some changes along the way and the students have coped well, showing brilliant resilience and flexibility. In Blue class it is wonderful to see the students make successful start to their school succe and learning journeys. There is so much to say about how far the Blue class has come in 2024 - from daily routines, wearing a uniform, eating at break times as well as making progress with their in class learning! Yellow class has exemplified the power of a strong foundation in early schooling. This year, the class welcomed several new students, and despite being the largest in number, they continued to excel and work diligently. Congratulations to both primary classes for their impressive achievements! In 2024, the senior classes participated in a diverse range of in-school and life skills learning experiences. The vibrant school environment has not only fostered academic growth but has also served as a platform for for developing essential life skills. Students actively contribute to the school café, take part in weekly canteen shopping duties, and some have even explored work experience opportunities. SPORTS This year, Gralee competed in regional ten pin bowling and earned the opportunity to represent the Riverina at the state level! Both a primary and secondary team travelled to Sydney for the state finals, where they bowled impressively and returned home knowing they ranked among the top 20 schools in the state. In addition, Gralee participated in boccia, with the team representing the school and themselves with great pride. Congratulations to all the sport representative teams! 2024 was another busy year for sports carnivals. Gralee attended an athletics carnival hosted by our friends at Kalinda School, showcasing some remarkable sporting achievements and even sparking a few friendly rivalries! The school also competed in all the small schools' carnivals, including swimming, athletics, and cross country. A big thank you to everyone for their participation and excellent sportsmanship during these events. Throughout 2024, Gralee students also had the opportunity to experience a variety of other sports, including golf, cricket, AFL, basketball, and NRL, as well as activities at the stadium, with pickleball emerging as a favourite. The event not only recognised the hard work and dedication of all students but also marked a heartfelt farewell to graduates Logan, Demi, and Dakota, who are embarking on their next adventures. The atmosphere was filled with pride and joy as awards were presented, highlighting the diverse talents and accomplishments of the student body. This special day served as a fitting tribute to the school community's commitment to excellence and the lasting memories forged during their time at Gralee School. In September, our school and its community stood loud, proud and colourful to raise awareness for something that shouldn't exist but does, and which hit our school hard this year - Childhood Dementia. We incorporated her BIG love of rainbows into a day and made our faces as bright as possible with face paint to raise awareness. Our students wore brightly coloured clothes for 'Face It Day', and the smiles on everyone's faces showed it was a very fun day.
