LEETON SHIRE COUNCIL NOTICEBOARD COUNCIL NEWS COUNCIL CONSIDERS NEXT STEPS FOR LEETON SPORTS PRECINCT PLANNING Leeton Shire Council has taken an important step forward in the future planning of local sporting facilities, noting the minutes of the inaugural Leeton Sports Precinct Advisory Committee meeting at its March Ordinary Council Meeting. The Committee, established to provide strategic, community-informed advice, met for the first time on 4 March 2026 and has commenced work to guide the development of a comprehensive Masterplan for the Leeton Sports Precinct. The precinct encompasses the Leeton Regional Aquatic Centre, Leeton Indoor Stadium, Ovals No 1, 2 and 3, and Mark Taylor Oval. The Masterplan will deliver a clear, staged framework to support future upgrades and investment across the precinct, ensuring facilities meet the needs of the Leeton Shire community and local sporting groups. At its first meeting, the Committee elected Michael McPhee as Chairperson and Rod Harrison as Deputy Chairperson, and endorsed the scope of works for engaging specialist consultants to prepare the Masterplan. Council has allocated $100,000 in the 2025/26 Budget to support the development of the Masterplan. Any future works identified through the Plan will be subject to the availability of external grant funding. COUNCIL REMINDER LAST CHANCE TO HAVE YOUR SAY KEEP YOUR DOG ON A LEASH IN PUBLIC PLACES Your Responsibilities as a Pet Owner Dogs are big part of peoples' lives and it's important to remember your responsibilities as a pet owner so everyone can enjoy our parks and open spaces. Under the Companion Animals Act 1998, dogs must be kept on a leash in all public places. This means when you are outside your home, including on the footpath, your dog must be on a leash - except in the designated off-leash park on Brobenah Road, Leeton, and in Yanco. Keeping your dog on a leash helps keep your dog safe from running onto the road or being separated from you. It also reduces the chance. of your dog potentially causing a nuisance or harm to other people or animals. An on-the-spot penalty of $330 can apply for dogs not being on a lead and not being controlled. The Companion Animals Act states: If a dog rushes at, attacks, bites, harasses, chases any person or animal whether injury is caused or not, the owner of the dog is guilty of an offence. The penalty amount for a dog attack is $1,320.00. Council has zero tolerance for dog attacks and will take enforcement action on owners of attacking dogs. Thank you for keeping the community safe.
