LEETON PUBLIC SCHOOL 2020 Year in Review Irrigator Wrap As we come closer to the end of the school year, we'd like to extend our thanks to you, our parent community, for demonstrating so much resilience STEAM Day The school held a STEAM day during Education Woek early Term 3. and pationce towards the circumstances we faced together. We strived together to get the best outcomes for our students and you have stayed by our side the entire time. We're The key component of STEAM is integration. Instead of teaching disciplines in independent subject silos, lessons ase well rounded, project and inquiry based, with a focus on interdisciplinary learning. STRAM align with the way we work and problem solve in our daily lives. Making it an exceptional way of instrueting and learning. With STEAM we way they will be used in the workforce, and the real world. Rarely does a job require only one skill and seamless ways. All students across the school participated in Science, Technology. Engineering, Art and Maths based activities. As they rotated around the various activities they applied skills in designing, oconstruction, problem solving and eritical thinking. despite the pandemie the way our students have they have risen some landmark oocasions and experiences due to sporting representation Fest I year and I e risen to the challenges of 2020. Students have missed out on PV such as many this are teaching skills the instead they are woven together in practical of and our Peer Support Program. Some events had our Presentation Day, Year 6 Graduation our the traditional ringing of the bell The open mindedness to change and resilience that all our students have contimoed to display is outstanding them well for the future. To our Yoar Six students, moving on to igh School evokes anticipation of beginning a new phase of hte, sadness in leaving a place that has nurtured foe 7 years; teepidation in contemplating what lies ahoad; and joy and satiadaction for what has been achieved. Regardless of how they are they have all been infuenced by your time at Loeton Public School and the person they are today is, to a significant degree, the result of their and these qualities and skills they have developed will preparo different feolings and emotions for students: excitement in a you Seeling interactions with the students and staff of Leeton Public School and the experiences they have shared. Excursions With the year that has been, it was an exciting opportunity for all students to participate in School Excursions across the school. This allowed all students to not only reinforce classeoom learning and material in some cases t also allowed them to enhance friendshipa and develop felong memorios with friends. Kindergarten toured Altina, Stage 1 learnt all about the past at Pioneer Park while Stage 2 and Stage 3 consolidated their skills in collaboration and teamwork at Borambola. We caught up with Year 6 to find out what some of their highlights have been during their time at Leeton Public School Xear & thoughta: Just the year 2020, we had gone through home schooling, something that I had a lot of fun doing, not seeing frionds made me sad but we came back after a few weeks. 1 had a great time this yoar doing different things. I know that for others it wasn't the best year but for me, it was the moset enjoyable year I had Jayden D My happy and joyful momenta weso the peer support training and graduation - Kenji R Some of the teaches at LPS helping me learn how to speak English - Aryan A My funniest memory is my kindergarten excursion. On the way home our brus beoke dowm. Luckly Mes Gil and her husband came to save the day. I remember I was in the very back seat and I found it so hilarious. While we were at Altina we were in carts and horses were puling us along. When we got to where the emus were, one emu stuck it's head out and pecked Mrs Prazer. - Madeleine G My favourite memory is when the LPS rugby union team travelled to Canberra to participate in a tournament. We went through the entire tournament without losing a game, Thomas Winning back to back Trent Barrett shields because it's the first time that it has ever happened in the competition. Ethan M Wellbeing At Leeton Public School there is a school wide collective responsibility for atudent welbeing, which is ahared by stalff, parents and studenta. We aim to peomote the social and emotional wellbeing of all studenta, to ensure optimum conditions for student learning across the school A planned approach to student welbeing processes supports the welbeing of all students so that they can conmect, succeed, thrive and learn at our school. While 2020 may have put a hold on some of our I opportunities including leading major sporting events and peogram, we were Jucky enough to continue on wth our Kindergaten and High School Transition programs in order to support student wellbeing. as they continme their learning journey in new environments. Student wellbeing is enhanced through numerous student leadership opportunities, not only through School and House Captains and VMice Captains but also through our Student Representative Council. Our SRC excelled in leading the planning, oeganising and delivery of fund raising events at school towards the end of 2020. My favourite memory from Leeton Public is when I aigned up for the soccet team. I got the chance to play soccer at a higber level. My other favourite memory is when I got picked to be a school Vice Captain. - Kebron L One of our favourite memories of school was when some of us travelled to Sydney for the fest time for School Spectacular and Festival of Choral Music. While wo were there we left our accommodation to go to rehearsal, but we took off and forgot Mra Ryan who then started running after the bus It is a great opportunity to meet so many new people from across the State. New friends, new experiencos, new places and a new possum friend These opportunities are awesome for rural and remote students like us Qudos Bank Arena and the Sydney Opera House are overwheiming at first because of the mass of people, but it in a lifetime opportunity for kids living amall areas.
