LEETON HIGH SCHOOL 2022- THE YEAR IN REVIEW... LEETON HIGH SCHOOL YEAR IN REVIEW 2022 What a great year it's been at Leeton High School Our annual swimming carnival was a wonderful way for all students, staff and parents to get together for a great day. Students enjoyed participating for fun or being serious competitors, which led to our talented squad travelling to Homebush to compete in the NSWCHS Swimming Championships in both individual and team events. Supreme effort and sportsmanship were certainly evident. What a wonderful learning experience in such a big arenal Term 1 also saw the induction of our en young leaders to the Student Representative Council-a great endorsement of the quality of students here at Leeton High School An SRC Induction Assembly and a moming tea were held with parents and carers in attendance to mark this very special occasion. The SRC have continued to be a within the school visible p As part of our year 6 into 7 Transition Program we shared our school with our community for the LHS EXPO Evening which was a brillant event thanks to all our teachers delivering some amazing hands-on experiences and the opportunity to y to pursue their interests at school NAIDOC Day celebrations were a special day where we explored Aboriginal History and of the AECG and Leeton and District Local Culture and benefitted from the expertise Aboriginal Lands Council. Many thanks to Mark and Deselen Morgan and Karen Davey for their great efforts supporting our students and teachers to learn mone Our school continued our mission to improve commence the event. A Webing Day was also held for Year 6 students so they could learn more about our school, meet new sends and explore ways to promote healthy wellbeing. Day Our Webeing Hub also supported students through Rapid Relief Team and Smart Cookie food donations and Food Bank also multiple hampers of non-perishable food to distribute to those in need in our community help providing donations to keep our The Golden Apple has been an incredible Breakfast Club serving around 70 students every morning. We thank these generous organisations for assisting our school community makes for a great start to school every day. Our senior student leadership team have been an exceptional group of students and are to be congratulated on their purposeful leadership in 2022. Thank you to the outgoing student leadership team-Jhie Deation and Meghan Davidson-Curtain as 2022 School Captains, Jamrah Brain and Alexandra Glenn, our Vice Captains, and Year 7 2022 enjoyed their team-building camp to Borambola and leat more about each other, made some new friendships developed different skills and participated in many diverse and fun activities for a great fantastic to be able to provide this valuable service to support other schools and their sudents with their post school decision making Additionally, we delivered two enterprising programs to further support our students who are needing more information about what's out there after school. The Future Moves and Work Ready program certainly hit the mark in providing Year 10 students with some useful information and smart advice on helping our students prepare for the next steps after school. The WIN and YES programs also provided some unique experiences later in the year for those perfect way to get to know each other for a great start to high school In Term 2 our Careers Expo was again in full swing with 1000 students from across the Riverina visiting us to learn more about future career pathway options. Our school hosted exhibitors from across NSW including universities and TAFE NSW, local business and industry and the armed forces. It was vocabulary focus with each faculty exploring strategies to enhance their teaching of significant improvement in vocabulary literacy with improvements in testing showing scores for students in Year 9. The Maths school and community and opportunities to gain workforce experience through our partnerships with many local businesses and organisations. A huge thank you to all involved including community businesses and organisations who generously gave their time work with adopted to support s understanding at the point of need. This initiative is an exciting personalised learning program which has produced outstanding years of learning in 2022. Students follow growth some students mastering their own learning pathway which identifies gaps to strengthen the knowledge base for greater success as students move through the mathematics curriculum. The program supports all leamers to achieve, including accelerating students if they have mastered stage appropriate concepts. Wellbeing is always front and centre at Leeton High School as a critical focus and our Wellbeing Hub has certainly stepped up to the challenge. Manyinatives and programs were supported this year through Leeton High Schools renowned Hands on Learning program provided opportunities for students who like to learn outside the classroom by exploring their more creative side, with the focus still being on improving iteracy and numeracy outcomes. Our Hands on Leaming group but their skills and knowledge by taking incredibly diverse projects around our school. Students beautified their green space, buit a communal dining table and also built Christmas trees for the festive season. This group will also assist with the building of props for our 2023 school musical-School of Rock! Our LHS Our LHS Learning Links program went from strength to strength this year with three groups running. This program supports the development of positive relationships, stronger connections with our Wellbeing Hub including our fantastic daly Breakfast Club and the running of This year, our Positive Behaviour for Leaming focus remained steadily aimed at promoting our core values respectful responsible, leamers. Students received PBL e-tickets for demonstrating our school values and have their names entered into Remy Pages, Oscar Richardson, Jay Paty program pre many challenges faced in these last Mivain, Lily Davies and Maddison Schier our Prefects for an outstanding year. This group certainly represented Leto High and were incredible role models for all. Our 2023 School Captains, Vice Captains and Prefects were elected during Term 3 this year picking up the legacy from our outgoing leaders. Congratulations to Cam Dun and Sabrina Maimone elected as our School Captains for 2003, Seth Flow and Jessica Wells, Vice-Captains, and Thomas Heins. Madeline Irvin, Molly Gilmour and Matilda Ryan as our Prefects. This group of young people are inclusive, committed, proactive ambassadors, and we look forward to their ongoing contribution and positive impact on Leeton High School in 2023 collectively earned 29,440 positive entries. A wonderful achievement by our students who are persistently demonstrating our chosen values and by our staff who continually acknowledge positive behaviours. Well done Leeton High School The Creative Arts were very much alive and well at Leeton High School this year. We embraced every opportunity to showcase our students' skills and talents and participated in events such as KROP Schools Spectacular, our local Eisteddfod Leeton Idol and most recently MADO Night Congratulations to all our students for sharing their immense talents and demonstrating enormous commitment and to our teachers for the considerable amount of time they spend preparing and practicing for these awesome events. 2063 2022 saw continued sporting success across multiple arenas following on from the flood of Riverina Representations, including, swimming, athletics and cross country, Throughout the year, students represented at te levels including NSWCHS Golf, NSWICHS Rugby League, NSWCHS Swimming NSWCHS Cross Country Equestrian, Open's Touch, NSWCHS Squash and participated in numerous local sporting competitions for Rugby League League Tag, AFL, Netball and Basketball Leeton High School's Open's Boys Rugby GD Union boys team defeated both St. Francis De Sales and Yanco Agricultural High School in a resounding victory to claim the Longhurst Family Cup in Rugby Union Great job Leeton High School-you have worked hard A special mention to NSW Representatives Callum Dunn for Rugby Union, Charlie Lamont for Cricket and Kyson Freer for an incredible year in Rugby League. Outstanding Congratulations to our Year 12 students who conquered their HSC Examinations and 13 years of schooling. These students have shown courage and commitment and we certainly applaud them for overcoming extraordinary years of their schooling Best wishes to this wonderful group of young people knowing they are set for a stellar future Tem 4 saw the move to YONDOR pouches to house mobile phones during the school day which has certainly enabled us all to re-connect with our leaning and to avoid distraction, interruption and negative social media contact via mobile phones. Students have done exceptionally well in adjusting to this change which is testament to their maturity and understanding of why we are doing what we are doing. Parents have been incredibly supportive of this move which has made this significant cultural change seamless. For this we all thank you and are reveling in the positive changes these pouches have bought to our school Best wishes for Christmas and New Year and thank you for your support.
